BACKGROUND As a kid I always loved exploring different places. My family has woods in our backyard, and one of my favorite things to do as a kid would be to get Walkie Talkies and go adventuring in the creek and woods with my older sister. I always hung out with my sister, and with her being two years older, I consequently hung out with the older kids in the neighborhood. I didn't know this at the time, but my sister told me a while ago that I always sucked at the games we would play outside, especially kickball, and looking back at it, that is definitely true. I was two years younger, so I honestly don't know what they were expecting from me. I was always just a little bit uncoordinated, but someone excelled in playing soccer since I was five, so really anything is possible.
I had a very typical lifestyle. I grew up in a suburban neighborhood and went to a great school. I tried everything and was a pretty busy kid. In fifth grade, I earned my black belt in Tae Kwon Do, something I had been working on with my family for three years. In high school, I played soccer, was involved in many clubs and extracurricular activities, did art for four years, and participated in theatre. I was always very focused on academics and strove to excel to my full potential. My parents worked hard for our family, and because of that were able to retire early from their job. They always encouraged me to pursue my passions and motivated me to do anything and everything, and they are one hundred percent the reason I am who I am today. I am lucky to have grown up in family that loves to travel. Travel has always been a major passion of mine; with my sister born in Malaysia and myself born in Singapore, my parents had us traveling since the day we were born. When I was two, my parents moved back to the US and decided to raise us in Cincinnati, OH. But traveling didn't end there. With our relatives in Chicago, Tampa, and Kansas City, we frequently visited there and explored the areas. We also visited St. Louis,MS and Washington D.C., which were some of my favorite memories with my family. Internationally, I traveled to Gulu, Uganda the summer of 2014 on a service trip through a club called Unified for Uganda which I am heavily involved in. Global Studies and the various cultures around the world is a major part of who I am and what motivates me. There is so much beauty in the world and in the people in this world, and I want to take in as much of it as possible. |

MAJOR & CAREER GOALI am currently starting my fourth year as a student at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Architectural Engineering. Architectural Engineering is a mixture of Civil and Structural Engineering, Building Systems Design, and Architecture. Architectural Engineering focuses on making building systems functional and structurally sound while keeping the art of the design intact. Students majoring in Architectural Engineering take classes both in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) and in the college of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning (DAAP), so this major is really able to blend my passions of math, science, and art. I have done my professional work at Hixson as an Architectural Co-op and KLH Engineers as a Mechanical Co-op. I have a passion for Mechanical building design and will be pursuing that for a full-time career. |
